From Karratha we travelled inland along the Rio Tinto rail access roads (permit required) into the Pilbra Region. The road is sealed most of way to the Chichester - Millstream National Park and from here to Karajini is unsealed and can be rough at various times, however the scenery along the way was well worth the effort.

Millstream Homestead visitor centre - Pastoralists occupied the area from 1865 until 1967 when it became a national park to protect the Millstream aquifer within the Fortescue River catchment.

Later that night we were in a prime location to view the total eclipse of the moon followed by the emergence of a "blood moon" - below is a brief clip of the sequence taken over several hours and shows the earths shadow as it passes over the moon followed by the emergence of the blood moon which then fades towards total darkness...….
